A girl Dorothy living in Kansas was blown up
with the house by the tornado, and fell on
the wonderful magic country Oz. Dorothy heard
that the great Wizard of Oz living in the
Emerald City should know how to return home.
She set off to the Emerald City. On the way,
Dorothy met three fiends who need the help
of th Wizard in the same way as her, and
they traveled together. The party had many
various adventures.
Can they meet the Wizard? Can Dorothy return
to Kansas? The wishes of the three friends
are realized?

This is the first work of the series. Admirable
and interesting. Many difficulties waits
for Dorothy and the friends. They gets get
over them with courage, wisdom and kindness.
This story is not for only children.
No2 The Marverous Land of Oz (L.Frank Baum)
<story>
The next hero is a boy Chip of the country
of Gillikin. He was raised by the old
mean witch Mombi. Mombi said she would transform
Chip to a marble statue as a punishment of
his mischief. Chip ran away to the Emerald
City where Scarecrow governed. At the same
time, aiming at the jewels of the Emerald
City, the rebel army organized by girls came
and threw the city into confusion.
What happens to Chip? What happens to Scarecrow?
And what happens to Oz?

This story was written because Baum received
many letters from children who want to read
the next oz story. Like the 1st book, many
adventures are arranged. But the atmosphere
is warm and friendly. Yes, that's the reason
why I love Oz.
No3 Ozma of Oz (L.Frank Baum)
<story>
The ship was wrecked by the storm, Dorothy
and a yellow hen Billina got to the
seashore of the country of Ev near Oz.She
heard the queen of Ev and her children have
been captured in the nome country underground.
Trying to release them, Dorothy and her friends
went to the nome country. But they were trapped
by Nome King and in a very serious predicament.
Can Dorothy return from the nome country
safely? What happens to the queen of Ev and
her children?

Dorothy, again! She is necessary in the Oz
stories!
But I don't agree so much with Dorothy and
Ozma about "the justice". I think
they are too pushy. Was Nome King so bad?
No4 Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz(L.Frank
Baum)
<story>
Dorothy fell underground by the earthquake.
When she was in trouble because the inhabitants
of the underground country are very hostile,
the Wizard of Oz appeared riding in the balloon.
He also entered into the crack by the earthquake.
Cooperating with the Wizard and the other
friends, Dorothy escaped from the country
and went on the travel looking for the road
to the ground surface.

In Japan, this book was published as 9th.
Though I thought this was not so good...no!
it was good enough!
I was very glad that the Wizard who had been
only a Swindler in 1st book appeared again
as a reliable man.
No5 The Road to Oz(L.Frank Baum)
<story>
Asked the way to Butterfield, Dorothy guided
a man. Strangely the forked road was
not usual. Dorothy couldn't find the way
to return to her house. The man and she chose
a road unthinkingly. The road went to the
fairyland. Dorothy and the man, Shaggy man,
had many adventures together.
<impression>
In Japan, this book was published as 10th.
There are not so many highlight scenes. After
they wandered around there, "Oh my!
We're in Oz!".
Many of semi-regular people appeared for
the first time. That's interesting, isn't
it?
